Home Care Novato CA
The day-to-day stress of being a family caregiver is one thing, but then there are the times that you find yourself dealing with an emergency situation. That brings extreme and sudden stress to your life that can cripple you if you don’t handle it wisely.
Start by Making a Prioritized List
As soon as you realize that you’re in crisis mode, get out a pen and a piece of paper and start making a list. Write down everything that has to be done as you think of it. This is more of a brain dump than a prioritized list at this point, but you need to get everything out of your head and onto paper where you can organize it and delegate as much as possible. The little things and the tasks that you can delegate are the first to deal with because they’re the easiest. Delegate as many of them as possible to get them out of the way. The little things that only you can do can wait. From there, tackle the items on the list in order of urgency and do it one item at a time.
Ask for Help
During an emergency situation, you’ll need all sorts of help. You’ll need people to handle the little things for you and you might need help caring for your elderly loved one. Have a list of people handy that you can call for some extra assistance. Hire home care providers if necessary and do what you can to stabilize the situation. If your loved one is in the hospital due to a sudden situation, you may simply need someone to stay at the hospital so that you can go home and rest.
Rest Often and Practice Self-care
When you’re in the midst of an emergency, self-care is more important than at any other time. you still have to rest, sleep, and eat so that you can keep your body and your brain going. If you ignore self-care during this time, everything is going to be more difficult. Keep those facts in mind when you start to think that you should be in a specific location, even though you’re exhausted.
Handling an emergency situation is never fun, but you can come through okay if you remember to take care of yourself and to tackle one thing at a time.
