SafeSenior Program Provides Automated Oversight
“Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age. Sometimes age
just shows up all by itself.”

Elder
care is a multi-level undertaking for caregivers and
medical professionals alike. Many seniors are on
medication regimes that can challenge even the sharpest
intellect. Often, there are a multitude of medical
appointments that must be attended, and careful
attention must be paid to the information conveyed in
those appointments. This information can be key to the
health and well-being of seniors. |

As people age, they often need more assistance in
keeping medical appointments and ensuring medications
are taken correctly and on time. Missing and/or
forgetting these important tasks are, at the least,
inconvenient and, at worst, life threatening. Having a
caregiver help an elderly client arrive on time to their
appointments or ensure that their medications are being
taken correctly can avoid under- or over-medicating as
well as reduce costs and inefficiencies to the physician
that arise from client “no-shows.”
One program, offered exclusively by members of The
Senior’s Choice, a nationwide organization of Senior
Care Firms, is “SafeSenior,” a specialized notification
system that can be set up to call its users at specific
times to remind them to take their medications The
program can also be automated to simply check on the
user to find out if they are safe and secure. If the
phone call goes unanswered, or if the user indicates
that he/she is not well, a designated contact is then
notified.
In order for seniors to maintain their health as well as
a responsible relationship with their medical providers,
having caregivers pay special attention to them and
their medication needs is of the utmost concern.
Medication reminder and well-being calls are a proactive
way to ensure that seniors are properly taking their
prescribed medications and that they are healthy and
well while living independently in their own homes.
These calls also provide comfort to their family
members, who know that they will be notified if their
elderly loved one is not properly taking their
medications or is unable to answer the telephone.
